Create new solution/project with .csproj convention instead of project.json

In the current latest build of Rider, is it possible to create a new web project using the newer .csproj configuration convention rather than the project.json? I understand that this would require the latest version of the core sdk release client to be installed, but curious if the IDE supports it yet.
