Angular 2 MVC6 Template

Hi guys, I'm running the Angular 2 MVC6 template. I can see that this has not been created using the Angular CLI. Is it possible to modify the template so that the Angular Cli ca be used. At the moment the cli complains that the angular.cli.json file is missing. I tried simply adding the file but there's a lot of configuration required to make this work (and I just can't seem to get it working). 

Does anyone have any advise on how to achieve this?
