Don't understand how to add jQuery to my .NET Core 2.0 test project

I downloaded the lastest Rider, and started an empty .NET Core 2.0 web application to try it out. Right away I tried to add jQuery 3.2.1 to the project, but failed.

I have read every page in your documentation about adding JavaScript libraries like jQuery to my project, and while I could so far as to see the jQuery appear in various package dialog boxes, none of the library files ever found their way into the designated folders under wwwroot.

What am I missing? Coming from VS2017 I was expecting to be abler to add a NuGet or Bower package, and immediately get the corresponding files automatically added under the wwwroot folder.

Kind regards, Lars
