Rider 2024.2.4 - Copilot Plugin: Shift+Enter not working

Since the update to Rider 2024.2.4 Shift + Enter does not create new-lines in Copilot (Inline) Chat, which did work before.

I first thought the plugin was the issue, but going back to plugin versions from July 2024 did not solve the issue on Rider 2024.2.4.

After installing Rider 2024.1.6 again, I can use the latest Copilot Plugin (1.5.22.6765) without issues. Shift + Enter works like expected.

Edit: I just checked a view versions of Rider by downgrading 2024.2.4. When i downgrade all the way to 2024.2.1 Shift + Enter does work again. Hope this helps finding the issue.

Hi!

Unfortunately, this is a third-party issue and we cannot do anything about it. Please follow the thread on Copilot issue tracker

Thanks for your reply and i understand, that JetBrains is not responsible for the external Plugins. But please allow me this question, as i already tried understanding the root of the issue as written in my first post:

Wouldn't it hint to some change/issue in Rider when the exact same Plugin version is working in 2024.1.6 and 2024.2.1 but not in any version above like 2024.2.4?

Hi TK , the only related discussion is the keymap binding confilction:

Jetbrains Copilot Chat multiple line input #80395

Please have a try to use the different shortcut for the completion/Rider actions. In Settings | Keymap, you can manage all action key bindings there. The details of all keymaps settings are available in Rider's documentation

Hi Tao Sun ,

even so i already lost too much time on this issue i just installed the latest version of Rider and removed all default shortcuts for Shift + Enter (i did never set any myself). After some tinkering i actually found a keybinding causing the issue:

When i remove this binding on Shift + Enter i can actually type newlines in my Copilot Chat.

But just to emphasize this: This keybinding is nothing i changed at anytime. Having this keybinding active in Rider 2024.2.1 did not cause any issue, so there is clearly some different behavior introduced by the newer versions of Rider. For me I'm happy to be able to use the latest versions of Rider again and use my Copilot-Chat Plugin as intended. But for the future i would appreciate a smoother upgrading experience for Rider without loosing so much time on finding out why some long working behavior suddenly does not work.

Hi TK ,

Thanks for your repliy in the GitHub Copilot issues. Since we cannot prevent shortcut confilction in 3-rd party plugins, change the actions in keymap will be the best solution in this situation.

A new support article with solution created on YouTrack for the same issue.
