Rider & Resharper? Best Licence Option?

Hi,

I have been using Rider for many years and have been using it at work. Before then I was a Resharper user.

I am now in a new team that predominately use visual studio (without resharper)

They heavily pair / mob through Visual studio Live Share (which is great!). I kind of assumed that if you had Rider, you had Resharper but I realise now, that's not the default.

And so I find myself in a pickle, as now I am locked out of all the refactoring tools I know and love when pairing! So my questions are

  1. Is there a licencing option to use both?
  2. Is there any plans to support live share in Rider?
  3. Is my best choice to switch my licence to a Resharper licence and… go back to using Visual Studio full time

Ideally through live sharing the Rider/Resharper awesomeness I can get some company buy in to get the commericial licences for all of it, but for now I am just on my personal licence, and I'm on a tight budget lately. I am always tempted by the all product pack, but realistically Rider is my 99.9% IDE.

-Thanks, Chris

Hello Chris,

Thanks for contacting Jetbrains support. I'm glad to work with you on this request.

Regarding your questions, please see my replies below:

  1. Is there a licencing option to use both?

Yes, you can purchase dotUltimate to have both Rider and ReSharper. It also contains dotnet tools to optimize your development.

  2. Is there any plans to support live share in Rider?

Yes, we provide similiar feature via Code With Me plugin, which is bundled in the latest Rider (2024.3.7). It's not officially supported yet, but it is at final test phase and you should be able to use it without problems. It's expected to be released on 2025.1.

  3. Is my best choice to switch my licence to a Resharper licence and… go back to using Visual Studio full time

If dotUltimate is not suitable to you, please contact Rider support. We will check with sales team if it's possible to switch the license for you.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Tom
