no longer have access to "pencils" widget

Since updating to 2025.1 my “Pencil” widget has vanished,
i have tried using a few methods to see if i can get it back:
1. View → Tool Windows → but the option isnt there.
2. it doesnt exist in the status bar or as the widget

3. I've tried disabling all plugins to see if that would bring it back.
4. Invalidating Cache.

im unsure how to rollback to see if it will come back.

any help would be appreciated.

i do also have an issue where opening a new solution the `More Tool Windows` widget doesnt follow my Default layout that i set. would i need to create a new issue for that?

Hello,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this. We've intentionally disabled the Pencil widget in Rider 2025.1. According to our stats, the usage of this feature was consistently low so we decided it was safe to drop it due to some performance considerations. However, if you think that Pencils deserve to be brought back, please feel free to upvote this issue or post your comment: RIDER-118076 Pencils widget is missing from Status Bar and Editor

Please accept our sincere apologies for the lack of clear communication on this matter.

Regards,

Tom

I’m fine with it dissapearing but I don’t know a way to turn off hints, and so on that the widget provided? Is there an alternative way or is that functionality lost with it?

Unfortunately, there is no equivalent to filtering out hints like pencil widget.

For other features, there are alternatives for inlay hints and code vision. You can go to Settings | Editor | Inlay Hints or Settings | Editor | Code Vision to toggle them respectively.

Please share your comment in the issue link I’ve provided. We highly value user feedback and will carefully consider all input regarding this feature.

Regards,

Tom

this widget was SUPER helpful!  Please provide a way to add it back in.  It's annoying to have to dig through a ton of configuration options to find the settings needed that the widget provided.  It doesn't have to be the widget itself, but it needs an equivalently equally easy way to make the adjustments that it provided.  Far to many snips of code are incorrectly underlined out of the box and there is no easy way to switch them back.  Simple grammer things like string literals that are intentionally spelled wrong in a code base that I am not going to change because it's a key in a dataset.  And no, the suggestion to add the incorrectly spelled word to my dictionary is wrong, i am not seeking to add more bad data to the system.  I just want to ignore some things quick and easily.  Exactly what that widget provided!  I am sure that I can find the setting “somewhere” in the sea of settings but it is so annoying that I should have to do that when the widget already did that perfectly.  Now my workflow is all jacked up.  I don't want to dig through menus to do what the widget already did.  Please add it back in!

Follow up.  I am often working with disassembled code.  The disassembled code has grammar and spelling mistakes in it that I want to ignore when i am just trying to read it.  without the widget there is no easy way to turn that off without turning it off for my own project as well.  The widget allowed me to turn off broad spectrums of checking on some files while easily leaving it on for the rest of my project so that the code i'm writing is checked while the disassembled code is not.  Again, please add that widget back in!

Thank you for your valuable feedback. Your concerns totally make sense. We're planning to offer Pencils as an optional widget in one of the upcoming public releases. Please follow RIDER-125139 for status updates on this.
