Rider trackpad issue

I have been using Rider and many other JetBrains products for some time. I am aware that they are sometimes on the more ‘heavier’ side of IDE's.

Recently, I had to force kill rider from the terminal, as my computer completely froze, and this was the only way to fix it. Since then, my trackpad has been behaving extremely strange. If there is focus in the text editor (or any text box), moving my mouse (through the trackpad) highlights and selects everything it encounters. It also moves the mouse about. This is not usual, and only began after I force quit rider. This is also only specific to JetBrains products, as it works perfectly fine in all other apps on the system. Now I have mentioned Rider a lot, but this also applies to CLion.

To sum up,

  • I forced killed Rider in the terminal using kill PID
  • My trackpad is now playing up, acting like its pressed down, but its not.
  • This is now happening to CLion (the only other JetBrains product I have on my system), despite it not being open at the time of the force kill
  • This does not happen to any other apps, only JetBrains
  • It occurs in all text fields in JetBrains apps
  • I have invalidated all caches and restarted several times, but to no avail

I have attached a video showing this. Upload id: 2025_06_30_aXJ5sZ1NTX8SMomFWM8qgM (file: 20250630_145847.mp4)

In the video, I show the issue at hand, and I DO NOT have the trackpad pressed. This is just dragging the trackpad

Thanks for your report and video. We need a bit more information to help diagnose the issue:

2. What macOS version are you using?
4. Can you provide diagnostic data (threadDumps, logs)? Help → Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data
6. Are you using any third-party tools for keyboard, mouse, or gesture control (like Karabiner or BetterTouchTool)?
8. Can you see if the issue happens with a different macOS user account?

Thanks again — we’ll look into this once we have that info.
