Hi, Laurent. Rider has the option of moving almost all special folders to another drive. Those folders can be found on: Configuration directory: %APPDATA%\Roaming\JetBrains\Rider2020.2 Plugins directory: %APPDATA%\Roaming\JetBrains\Rider2020.2\plugins System directory: %APPDATA%\Local\JetBrains\Rider2020.2 Logs directory: %APPDATA%\Local\JetBrains\Rider2020.2\log
To move data to another drive, please follow the steps below: 1. If you installed Rider as a standalone application: а. Open “Help -> Edit custom properties” menu and add paths to the necessary directories, for example:
i. If needed, you can override the location of idea.properties file by adding paths below: More information about overriding the location of idea.properties you can get on https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207240985 b. Save configuration and close Rider; 2. If you installed Rider via the Toolbox app: a. Open Rider settings in Toolbox; b. Open the “Configuration” section and change “System, config, plugins, and logs directories” field to the actual path and press “Apply”. 3. Move data from default folders, except “idea.properties” file, which is located in “%APPDATA%\JetBrains\Rider2020.2” if you didn't take a step 1.a.i; 4. Run Rider.
Why on earth is the Custom Properties menu item hidden in the Help menu? That makes no sense - at least not to me. It has nothing to do with help - and its the last place i would look for this.
You can easily find these properties (and literally everything else) with the Search everything (double Shift) action. These are advanced platform-specific properties. They are used not often and we don't have plans to move them. However, you can create a feature request for this if you want.

Please find more information about the platform properties on https://www.jetbrains.com/help/rider/Tuning_the_IDE.html#configure-platform-properties.
Let me know if it helps.

How about moving it to the settings menu ?
Hello @...!
You can easily find these properties (and literally everything else) with the Search everything (double Shift) action. These are advanced platform-specific properties. They are used not often and we don't have plans to move them. However, you can create a feature request for this if you want.
Thank you!
What's the 2024 version of this? I'm interested in using the new Windows “Dev Drive”
Hi @...!
Now it is under the ToolBox settings:
Also, you can still edit custom properties manually from the IDE. Feel free to try!
Changing the “Tools Installation location” doesn't move the files to new location. Is this behaviour changed?
Demetrios Seferlis It will not affect the installed IDEs, and it only impacts the new IDEs installation; caches/user profiles will not be affected.
So the suggested solution is to move installed IDEs is to uninstall and install back after changing Installation location?
Demetrios Seferlis Yes, IDE installation settings in Toolbox only apply to new installations.
You can use the Setting Sync feature in IDEs and will not lose personal settings.
