DPA Warning

Answered

If I chose not to install the ETW service I get a "Warning" triangle on the bottom right of the IDE to say DPA is disabled. Surely it's by design (I didn't want it) so why show me a warning? I think there shouldn't be a warning if the service isn't installed on purpose and therefore the warning triangle shouldn't be shown.  It would be fair enough if I was trying to use it and it wasn't there but I have no need for it so that wouldn't be the case and therefore no error case exists, therefore one shouldn't be indicated.

Hi Craig

Triangle provides by bundled DPA plugin. You can install ETW anytime to use DPA. If you don't need it, you can get rid of this triangle by disabling DPA plugin in settings. I hope this helps! Should you have any other questions, let us know.

Thanks Alexandra, that sorted it.

However, it's strange that it should be enabled when I'd already unchecked the item in the installation screen. Maybe that's a bug? It could also be a hangover from the previous version's config files where I probably allowed it to install initially.

Craig,

DPA plugin and ETW services are not the same. If ETW not installed during the installation process, Windows UAC will ask for permission to run this service every time you start a profiling session. DPA plugin installs automatically. Please, find here more details.

Still doesn't make sense to have the DPA plugin installed if the ETW service isn't available though does it?

Craig,

just in case, do we talk about this triangle?

Yes. It disappeared once I removed the DPA plug in.

Craig,

thanks. So, everything is correct: this is not warning, but a plugins button and you can disable it along with the plugin. It makes sense as you can install ETW anytime even if you did not during installation. This is definitely not obvious so we plan to add more information about Jetbrains ETW Service.
Thank you!
