Just in case anyone runs into this issue, I ran into and here is what I found: Rider will display an error for ViewData if there is a space after the @model declaration.This is the code in question...

Since I can't edit my original post let me specify what I am running, my apologies for leaving it out: ASP.NET Core 2.x (latest, non-beta) Windows 10 Pro
