Rider takes too much disk space

There are some special folders which are used by Rider to store its data (logs, caches,  old snapshots, etc.) Typically, the size of those folders should not be significant. However, in some cases, size can increase noticeably. In these cases, you might want to delete obsolete files and folders.

If you’ve noticed that Rider occupies too much disk space, you can safely delete the following folders:

Windows

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\dotMemory\v{version}\workspaces
    Contains dotMemory snapshots.
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Shared\vAny\DecompilerCache
    Contains decompiled sources.
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Shared\vAny\Installer
    Contains installer log files.
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Shared\vAny\Sessions
    Contains dotTrace snapshots.
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\Transient
Contains different kinds of Rider caches.
Note: deleting this folder will trigger full solution analysis as it contains solution-wide-analysis caches.
  • %USERPROFILE%\.Rider{version}\system\log
    Contains Rider log files.

OSX

  • /Users⁩/⁨{User}/⁨Library/⁨Caches/⁨Rider{version}/⁨resharper-host⁩/Transient
Contains different kinds of Rider caches.
Note: deleting this folder will trigger full solution analysis as it contains solution-wide-analysis caches.
  • /Users⁩/⁨{User}/⁨Library/Preferences/Rider{version}/resharper-host/Sessions
    Contains dotTrace snapshots.
  • /Users⁩/⁨{User}/⁨Library/⁨Logs⁩/Rider{version}
    Contains Rider log files.

Linux

  • /home/{user}/.Rider{version}/system/resharper-host/Transient
Contains different kinds of Rider caches.
Note: deleting this folder will trigger full solution analysis as it contains solution-wide-analysis caches.
  • /home/{user}/.Rider{version}/config/resharper-host/Sessions
    Contains dotTrace snapshots.
  • /home/{user}/.Rider{version}/system/log
    Contains Rider log files.

Some additional global settings are stored in %USERPROFILE%\.Rider{version}. You can delete any folders that correspond to older, unused versions.
