Rider Community Edition

Dear Rider Team,

I've came across your product through various youtubers while learning new .NET Technologies.

Upon visiting the website I saw that Rider is a cross platform IDE for .NET devs which essentially means

your IDE is devoid of all the clutter from .NET Framework and everything that is WinOS specific.

Which is in my opinion makes your product superior by default.

But I also realized that there's no "Community" Edition for hobbyists and students who are not making money out

of the product.

I believe it would be a wise move from Jetbrains side to open such version in order to introduce your product to the wider public

and encourage a wave of future software engineers who'd prefer your product over the competition.

Kind regards,

Daniel.

+Community Edition of Rider please

My options are:

  1. Use Rider at work and VS at home and have reduce productivity because 2 different configurations, key bindings, environments, ext.
  2. Use VS at work and VS at home with no friction (same configurations, key bindings, environments, ext.).

Work place may reduce Rider licences because developers do not like option #1.

Regrettably, at this time we're not planning to release a Community Edition; we may revisit this decision at a later date, but there are no current plans at this time.

You might want to check out the information about Rider complimentary licenses. Please note that every major version has its new trial period. Also note that Rider EAPs are distributed free of charge.

Mnr M Coetzee, Rider provides the out-of-box VS keymaps and migration guides to help you get started painlessly.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. Have a great day!

Microsoft will discontinue Visual Studio for Mac at the end of August this year. There will therefore no longer be a free alternative valid for Mac. Given this, have you considered the idea of making a community edition of Rider? It would be needed more than ever now

Hi My Friends , I am C# Developer ,And i have read this thread of 4 Years of ‘Community Edition’ and i was first after install linux to get away from microsoft windows slow and problems specially after Win11 - i listen there is IDE called Rider but Unfortunately there is no Community Edition its paid and I am Student , and its good and thankfully to help students by Student Program and i already tries to register on it

But it is not solve the main problem - most of Devs Can't Afford Purchase The IDE with All Features , and i am one of them because of my country bad situation But if i am Highly Can Purchase it for 149$  on other side i cant pay it yearly

so if you are need Devs to use Your Tools make the prices lower for Solo and Normal User and this will increase your Base and it is an Oppertinuty , Microsoft have stopped support MAC Too

-What i need to tell  you , you can do it by Add Community Edition Or by affordable prices For Indivisuals ( Normal User ) like Students ,Graduated Students ,Devs in field - And after you make this a lot of Devs linux and MAC , and windows Devs after know there is an alternatives for there tools and Needs you will be in a different Area

-if You dont Need to make a Community Edition make it like 20$/year
-You Want it Full Purchase 149$ , it least make it life time

- Because Of This i am Unfortunately will leave My Linux and will continue with Windows by force myself

Finally My Words  is with my heart and love this team that makes cross great apps and i hope that in the future will change & Goes High Skys

A lot Of Love , My Regards OSAMA THABIT

I think it's short sighted not to offer a community edition of Rider.  Learning a new IDE is a big investment and I would like to learn it on some hobby projects before I commit to switching my team to a new IDE. All non-commercial use of an IDE is essentially educational. With Visual Studio I use Pro at work and Community at home.  There's a synergy that makes hobby projects more attractive to spend time on because I can develop proficiency with the tools I will use at work.

When I teach a kid to code I'm not going to start them on an IDE that requires an annual subscription or is available only on one platform.  It doesn't make sense to learn two tools for the same job, so it's smart to get people invested in your product before they start making money with it. As far as I know this is the only Jet Brains IDE without a community edition. Why? I started my kid on PyCharm for Python, but this makes me worry you might pull the rug on that too.
