Can't use Rider AI features due to "Untrusted license"

I'm using JetBrains Rider 2026.2.3.1 with the free license and would like to try out the free AI tooling. When I try to authenticate to use Rider's AI features, I'm stuck with a “Loading…” message in the AI Chat panel. Also the settings Tools → AI Assistant → Providers & API Keys is stuck in the same “Loading…”.

I've tried to log out and back in to my JetBrains account but it didn't change the situation.

In the AI Chat panel three dot menu, the Manage License option is grayed out.

I see the logs say “Failed to exchange the license access token; HTTP status 492 […] Untrusted license” when the “Loading…” thing happens.

I've uploaded my logs with upload id: 2026_10_04_29svaAgeG3JWp9mnPfPm1Y (file: rider-logs-20261004-15531413968042678323885018.zip)

Thanks for any ideas for what's going on and how to activate the AI features.

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed description and for uploading the logs.

Based on your logs, the "Untrusted license" (HTTP 492) error comes from a verification check that JetBrains AI runs before activating AI Free. Accounts with a free or non-commercial IDE license and no purchase history are sometimes asked to link a bank card first. This is a known check, tracked here: LLM-18503 (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-18503). Nothing will be charged. The card is only used to verify the account.

Normally the IDE asks you to add a card. In Rider 2026.2.3, there's a known bug where AI Assistant keeps waiting instead, so AI Chat and the Providers & API Keys page stay on "Loading..." and Manage License is greyed out. That's tracked here: LLM-31479 (https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/LLM-31479).

To activate AI Free, please try the following:

1. In Rider, go to Help | Register and note which JetBrains Account is shown in the bottom-left corner.
2. Sign in to JetBrains Account (https://account.jetbrains.com) with that same account.
3. If there are any terms of service waiting for your acceptance, accept them.
4. Open the Payment methods section and add a bank card.
5. Restart Rider and open the AI Chat tool window again.

If AI Chat still shows "Loading..." after this, please let us know and send a new set of logs via Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data, and we'll check your account on our side.

You can vote for or follow the issues above to get updates. See Watching YouTrack issues (https://intellij-support.jetbrains.com/hc/en-us/articles/207241135) for how to do that.

Best regards,

Thank you! I confirm that the problem got resolved by adding a bank card to my account.
