Quick Documentation not working and no option to select in settings page
Quick Documentation suddenly stopped working and is not even available as selectable option in settings (see screenshots for expected and as-found conditions).
No software changes on host machine were made in last 10 days prior to failure.
Attempted (and failed) fixes:
1) Delete and re-install Rider
Has anyone seen this before and have a fix?

Same problem here, Rider 2022.1.2, MacOS Monterey
@Taylan Same version of Rider for me.
I created Request #4166938
Hi @Julien, Taylan Kadayifcioglu!
I've created an issue for this, please feel free to follow it for further investigation.
Also, could you please try the latest Rider EAP and check if it works there?
Thanks!
Hi Julien, Taylan Kadayifcioglu!
could you please open any quick doc via shortcut and check if
Show on Mouse Move
option is available under the three dots menu? Is it switched on?Thanks!
The option does show up when the shortcut and three-dots are clicked; however, even when selected no checkmark is ever added, i.e., Rider ignores the input. Also, I notice that I do not have the "Show Documentation Popup First' option in my popup, it seems to have disappeared.
EAP version 2022.2 EAP9 build 222.3345.44 exhibits the exact same problem as current version of Rider: no option for showing Quick Documentation.
Hi!
There's a separate ticket RIDER-73745 about disappearing
Show Documentation Popup First
.As for the main problem, could you please add a screenshot of the settings menu in `Documentation Tool Window` opened via
Open as Tool Window
button.Thanks!
@Alexandra Is this what you are requesting?
I'm also having the same problem as described at the beginning of this discussion. I'm running the latest version of Rider 2023.1.3 which is the latest at the time of this comment on a Mac with Apple Silicon chip and macOS Ventura 13.4.1. I'm constantly checking for updates and Quick Documentation used to work without any issue. I noticed it only stopped working after updating to the latest version of Rider.
Same for me, running Ventura13.4.1 on an M1 Pro chip, started having problems when updated Rider to version 2023.1.3
Hi Gsousa!
Thank you for the report. Unfortunately, the main issue has not been fixed yet. Feel free to follow it to be notified about the progress!
Thanks for the feedback, Alexandra Guk!
I just noticed that it's affected all the info pop-ups that should appear on hover, e.g. the name + shortcut when hovering over the left menu icons.
Hi Gsousa!
Good that you've mentioned it. In this case, could you please check if "Support screen reader"s is off on the File | Settings | Appearance & Behavior | Appearance settings tab? When this feature is turned on, all hover popups are not shown.
Hi Alexandra Guk!
Indeed it was turned on, and turning it off (and restarting Rider) worked, thanks a million!
Hi Alexandra Guk!
When I turn off the Support screen reader option and click Save, it works without restarting Rider. But then when I close Rider (Cmd+Q) and open it again, it gives the following dialog:
I press the Exit button on the dialog, Rider restarts again, and then when I open some project the Support screen reader option is turned on again and the hover is not working. Maybe I'm not doing something right?
Hi Kaloyan Alexandrov!
It seems like something went wrong. Do you have Settings sync enabled? What Rider version do you use?
Could you please reproduce the issue and collect the full log bundle? This allows us to take a closer look at the case. You can upload logs to our server or use Help | Bug report with logs automatically privately attached.
Thank you in advance, and have a great day!
Hi, Alexandra Guk!
I'm running Rider 2023.1.3 on a M1 MacBook Pro with macOS Ventura 13.4.1. I have settings sync disabled. I reproduced the issue, collected the logs and uploaded them to your server. This is the upload ID: 2023_07_10_KiizJ7gCGHXHW66YFLcyYb (file: rider-logs-20230710-2144541007343000902067862.zip). I hope this helps in troubleshooting the issue. Thanks in advance and have a great day!
Hi Kaloyan Alexandrov!
Thank you for the details.
I've created a new separate YouTrack issue. Feel free to follow it for further investigation. Thanks!
Hi Kaloyan Alexandrov!
Here is a copy of the YouTrack comment.
Please check two things.
.accessibility.properties
(started with a dot) in your user directory? I.e.~/.accessibility.properties
jstack -l <rider process pid>
(instructions) while this window is seen on the screen, and attach the output? It could help us to determine what exactly triggers the IDE restart request (i.e. what tries to reset the screen reader back). You can reply right in the YouTrack ticket or here in the thread. Thanks!
